No Ocean Waste

No Ocean Waste is a global activity that Brother takes part in throughout the month of June every year. Every employee gets the chance to make commitments at the beginning of the month to reduce ocean waste by taking part in various activities such as beach clean ups in their local area, making more sustainable purchasing choices and increasing what they re-use and recycle.

At the end of the month, the commitments are reviewed as each employee submits their result. Across our thousands of employees across the whole Brother group, we are able to make a huge impact.

The Golden Ring Project: Raising funds for cancer patient support around the world

Hosted annually by Brother Global, the Golden Ring Project (GRP) is an important social contribution event for the company. All local offices and factories are encouraged to participate in fundraising activities of their choice, such as swimming, cycling and running, to forge a 'ring' of support around the world.

This relay of events creates a sense of unity on a global scale, with the aim of raising money to support patients with cancer worldwide. In 2019, 4,317 employees took part in fundraising activities from 23 different locations worldwide. Support continued during Covid through virtual events, with in-person events resuming in 2023 and beyond.

Environmental restoration in the Peak District in the UK

Sometimes making the world a better place means getting your hands dirty! For the past couple of years, around 80 members of staff from Brother Europe volunteered at the RSPB-managed Dove Stone reservoir, situated within the Peak District National Park. Having taken around 5,000 years to develop, the rich diversity of life that inhabits the blanket bog above Dove Stone reservoir makes it internationally important.

Over the last 200 years, the land has been degraded by acid rain, wildfires and heavy grazing, all of which have adversely affected the levels of wildlife in the area. By planting 10,000 sphagnum mosses and installing 60 heather bales in new dams, the restoration work will help to sequester carbon, restore local biodiversity, improve drinking water and prevent further fire outbreaks.

We believe sustainability is about operating responsibly; but more than that, it's an opportunity to support the communities we're a part of and to have a positive impact on the world.
